Shaista Aziz
Shaista Aziz is a former BBC News and Aljazeera journalist, experienced aid worker, stand up comedian and writer. Shaista won the respected King Gong open mic competition at the Comedy Store in Manchester a year ago which kick started her comedy career.
Since then Shaista has performed stand up across the UK, was invited to perform at the Hong Kong Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, has reached the semi finals of the Funny Women 2010 competition and final of the Liverpool Comedy Festival 2010 Best Newcomer Awards.
Shaista writes for The Guardian newspaper, is a regular panel guest on BBC Radio, has appeared as a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and written a series of scripts for Radio 2’s Pause for Thought. She has also appeared on Channel 4’s, 4.Thought TV.
Shaista is a respected commentator on international current affairs. Over the past 10 years she has travelled and worked all over the world from Iraq, Iran and Gaza to Haiti, Tajikistan, Yemen, Russia and Pakistan.
