Phil Whelans

Phil can currently be seen performing in Impro Group, Grand Theft Impro and Sketch Team, the Pros from Dover.

He wrote and performed in THE RECOMMENDED DAILY ALLOWANCE (BBC Choice), STUPID (BBC1), with his sketch-group Pros from Dover in THE INFINITE MONKEY CAGE and 28 ACTS IN 28 MINUTES (Radio 4), THE JACK DOCHERTY SHOW (Ch5), THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED (Radio 2). Performing includes FEEL THE FORCE(BBC2), Impro TV pilot, GIBBERISH (Celador T.V.) BBC4's brainy panel game, MIND GAMES and cult Internet show KATEMODERN. Other TV performing credits includes PRESTON FRONT, PUNT AND DENNIS (BBC), BRASSEYE (Ch4), and feature film, JAM (Angelo Abela).

He was invited to improvise at 2001's Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival for CBCTV and has since performed impro shows in Toronto, Seattle, San Franciso and New York. He took part in THEATRESPORTS at the Donmar Warehouse, Edinburgh festival and Glasgow Mayfest and improvised courtroom drama COURT IN THE ACT at Watford Palace and Chichester Festival Theatres. He recently performed in SHOWSTOPPER! THE IMPROVISED MUSICALHAMLET IMPROVISED (London Mime Festival) and Eddie Izzard's IMPRO MD. 

Phil co-wrote THE BARKERS V THE REST OF THE WORLD for Radio 5 and DATE WITH FATE for Radio 4; was Script editor of BBC TV sketch show, VELVET SOUP and BBC Radio 2's JASON BYRNE SHOW. He wrote the animation scripts for KNTV PHILOSOPHY (‘Channel 4 at its best' - The Guardian) and KNTV SEX and has written for, among others, SPITTING IMAGE, LWT's THE BRIAN CONLEY SHOW, LILY LIVE and 2DTV, THE 11 O'CLOCK SHOW, THE BIG BREAKFAST. And BASIL BRUSH. He also wrote the script for Al Gore's LIVE EARTH, Wembley 2007.

He directed 2006 if.Comedies award winning show THE NAKED RACIST starring Phil Nichol.

And Phil plays bass in Punk Tribute Band Beergut 100 with Bill Bailey and Kevin Eldon.
